Programme Synopsis

The Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching (PGDT) programme offered by Open University Malaysia (OUM) is one year programme fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). It is designed to meet the needs of graduates interested in pursuing careers in education, particularly those who are currently employed or are interested to pursue their career in private educational institutions.

PGDT’s current mode of delivery is blended which comprises face-to-face tutorials, online learning and learning support and self-managed learning with OUM’s modules and learning resource, This means that besides attending tutoring sessions at one of the OUM’s learning centres, learners are also able to access various kinds of learning materials and learning resources via OUM’s online learning management system (LMS). The LMS provides an excellent platform for learners to perform their self-managed learning. On top of that the learners are also assigned to a dedicated e-Tutor/online-tutor to guide them in their learning and to provide consultation services in areas related to their courses. The specific courses/modules under this programme include Curriculum Development, Theories and Practices of Teaching and Learning, Guidance and Counselling, Educational Management, Educational Assessment, Instructional Technologies as well as Emerging Technologies for Teaching and Learning. The one year programme have been carefully designed to ensure that the potential teachers and educators are able to acquire the knowledge and skills that meet the learning demands of the 21st century learners.

Towards the end of their study, learners will undergo practicum or teaching practice in selected schools or institutions of learning. The practicum emphasizes the application of theories in actual teaching and learning environment so as to equip learners with practical teaching and classroom management skills. Overall, OUM’s PGDT learners are expected to complete their 30 Credit hours within the duration of 1 year. Upon graduation, learners will be awarded the Post Graduate Diploma in Teaching or Diploma Lepasan Ijazah dalam Pengajaran.

Bachelor’s Degree or other qualifications recognized by the Government with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent as accepted by Senate;


Bachelor degree or other qualifications recognized by the Government with CGPA less than 2.50, can be accepted with a minimum of 5 years of working experience.

Discount for the Physically Challenged Learners (OKU) and Senior Citizens

The University offers 50% discount for:

  • Senior citizens aged 60 and above on registration date; and
  • Physically challenged learners – a valid Orang Kelainan Upaya (OKU) is required.

These discounts are for subject fees only and are not applicable for research and other fees. The discounts are also not valid for second time registration and repeating of subjects.

Learners who receive this discount are not entitled to other discounts and promotions.

♦ Re-registration fee of RM220 per semester is chargeable for extension of Masters Projects
