YAYASAN CANSELOR OUM

The Yayasan was established on 15 May 2006 with the primary objective of promoting excellence in teaching and learning, research, culture and the arts in line with the government policy of creating a caring society through lifelong learning. It was launched by the then Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, in November 2008.

Its objectives are to:
1. Provide scholarships, bursaries and other forms of financial assistance to deserving learners;
2. Award individuals or members of society and industry for outstanding contributions in education;
3. Award learners for outstanding academic performance;
4. Provide research grants to eligible researchers;
5. Provide opportunities to individuals or members of society and industry to contribute towards OUM’s scholarly pursuits;
6. Manage endowment funds; and
7. Provide financial and other forms of assistance to needy individuals and families to improve their welfare.

 

Bursary for Academic Excellence

There are several bursary schemes under Yayasan Canselor OUM. These are open to Malaysian citizens registered with OUM, as follows:

1.0 Senior Students

1.1 Eligibility

  • The bursary is awarded to learners who are in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year of study.
  • It is in the form of 100% tuition fee exemption for one academic year (learners need to pay administration fees only), based on the terms and conditions.
  • Learners NEED NOT apply for the bursary as selection is made by the Bursary Committee based on the results of the September final examination.

1.2 Terms and Conditions
 

Learners must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in any Diploma or Bachelor level programme;
  • Not sponsored by any other sponsoring body;
  • Enrolled in OUM for not less than 1 academic year;
  • Achieve an excellent CGPA in the final examination of the September semester;
  • Never subjected to any disciplinary action by the University authorities;
  • Does not defer for 2 or more consecutive semesters throughout the Bursary eligibility period; and
  • Required to maintain a GPA of not less than 3.70 for each semester throughout the Bursary eligibility period.

 

 

2.0 New Students

2.1 Eligibility

  • The bursary is awarded to new learners with excellent entrance qualifications with relevant financial background. Single mothers are encouraged to apply.
  • It is in the form of 100% tuition fee exemption for one academic year (learners need to pay administration fees only), based on the terms and conditions. It is open to all new learners in their first semester at OUM.
  • Learners NEED to apply for the bursary and selection is made by the Bursary Committee every semester.

2.2 Terms and Conditions

Learners must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in any Diploma or Bachelor level programme;
  • Not sponsored by any other sponsoring body;
  • Never subjected to any disciplinary action by the University authorities;
  • Does not defer for 2 or more consecutive semesters throughout the Bursary eligibility period; and
  • Required to maintain a GPA of not less than 3.00 for each semester throughout the Bursary eligibility period.

3.0 Postgraduate Students

3.1 Eligibility

  • This award is opened to learners with excellent academic performance and they are in the 2nd year of study in OUM.
  • It is in the form of 100% tuition fees exemption for one academic year (learners have to pay Administration Fees only), based on the terms and conditions.
  • Learners NEED NOT apply for the bursary as selection is made by the Bursary Committee based on the results of the September final examination.

3.2 Terms and Conditions

Learners must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in any Master’s programme;
  • Not sponsored by any other sponsoring body;
  • Have enrolled at OUM for not less than 1 academic year;
  • Achieve a CGPA of not less than 3.80 in the final examination of the September semester;
  • Never subjected to any disciplinary action by the University authorities;
  • Does not defer for 2 or more consecutive semesters throughout the Bursary eligibility period; and
  • Required to maintain a GPA of not less than 3.80 for each semester throughout the Bursary eligibility period.

4.0 Alumni

4.1 Eligibility

  • The bursary is awarded to all OUM Alumni members who obtained a First Class Degree.
  • It is in the form of 100% tuition fees exemption for one academic year (learners have to pay Administration Fees only), based on the terms and conditions and is open to all Alumni members in their first semester at OUM
  • Learners NEED NOT apply for the bursary as selection is made by the Bursary Committee based on the undergraduates' admission record.

 

4.2 Terms and Conditions

Learners must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in any Bachelor or Master’s programme;
  • Not sponsored by any other sponsoring body;
  • OUM Alumni members and obtained CGPA at least 3.70 (Diploma or Bachelor) or 3.80 (Master) in OUM;
  • Never subjected to any disciplinary action by the University authorities;
  • Not allowed to defer for 2 or more consecutive semesters throughout the Bursary eligibility period; and
  • Required to maintain a GPA of not less than 3.70 (Bachelor) or 3.80 (Master) for each semester throughout the Bursary eligibility period.

5.0 Incentives for Athletes and Coaches

5.1 Eligibility

  • It is opened to athletes and trainers with excellent accomplishment in sports and are active for the past 5 years.
  • The incentive given to athletes is based on their performance as below:
    • Athletes who represented the country and won medals at the international level is given a 100% tuition fees exemption within the offered period (learners have to pay Administration Fees only), based on the terms and conditions.
    • Athletes who represented the country are given a 20% discount tuition fees exemption within the offered period, based on the terms and conditions.
  • The incentive for trainers is given based on the Specific Sports Training Course phase.
    • Third Class Trainers are given a 15% discount in tuition fees within the offered period, based on the terms and conditions.
    • Second Class Trainers are given a 10% discount in tuition fees within the offered period, based on the terms and conditions.
  • Learners need to apply for the bursary as selection is made by the Bursary Committee every semester.

        5.2 Terms and Conditions

Learners must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in any Diploma or Bachelor level programme;
  • Not sponsored by any other sponsoring body;
  • Tuition fees exemption only involves the first registration for every subjects;
  • Never subjected to any disciplinary action by the University authorities;
  • Not allowed to defer for 2 or more consecutive semesters throughout the Bursary eligibility period; and
  • Required to maintain a GPA of not less than 2.00 for each semester throughout the Bursary eligibility period.

 6.0 Special Bursary

6.1 Eligibility

  • The bursary is awarded to new learners with special entrance qualification(s) with relevant financial background.
  • It is in the form of 100% tuition fees exemption for the offered time (learners have to pay administration fees only), based on the terms and conditions.
  • Learners need not apply for the bursary as selection is made by the Bursary Committee.

 

 

 

6.2 Terms and Conditions

Learners must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in any Diploma or Bachelor level programme;
  • Not sponsored by any other sponsoring body;
  • Tuition fees exemption only involves the 2nd registration for every subjects, if a learner is repeating the course;
  • Never subjected to any disciplinary action by the University authorities;
  • Not allowed to defer for 2 or more consecutive semesters throughout the Bursary eligibility period;
  • Required to maintain a GPA of not less than 2.00 for each semester throughout the Bursary eligibility period.

 Important Note:

  • Recipients of the bursary are required to sign a letter of undertaking with the University;
  • The university's decision in relation to the award is final; and
  • The university has the right, at any time and at its absolute discretion, to revise any of the terms and conditions or to withdraw the award.
