Convocation is truly one of those beautiful moments at OUM. We get to see the joyful faces of our learners who have successfully completed their studies after years of hard work and dedication. We get to share in the happiness of their loved ones who supported them in one way or another. And we get to honour those who went above and beyond, standing out from the crowd.

This year’s 28th Convocation was particularly momentous, with a remarkable increase in the number of graduates. From 5,260 graduates in the previous year, the number surged to an impressive 6,476, largely due to over 2,000 Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching graduates.

The Convocation was held at our usual convocation venue – the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur – from 26 to 29 October. In those 4 full days, two sessions were held each day to ensure that every graduate got their share of the limelight.

The Convocation created cherished memories not only for the graduates but also for the staff who teamed up to organise this annual event. Ensuring all went smoothly across the eight sessions required a tremendous amount of preparation, much of it done behind the scenes or completed weeks, even months, ahead of time.

The organising committee was led by our President/Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Ahmad Izanee Awang, as the Chairman, with Vice President/Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & Research) Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Tajudin Md Ninggal as the Deputy Chairman.

Our Registrar Assoc Prof Dr Tuan Fatma Tuan Sulaiman headed the five-member secretariat, supported by 17 working committees. With so many contributors, it was truly a pan-university effort, enlisting the support of practically every unit.

A whole mountain load of work was done, from finalising the list of students who had completed their studies, selecting award winners, and making technical and physical preparations to getting the academic robes, smart cards, publications, speeches, scrolls and transcripts ready. Regular meetings were held to make sure that everyone knew where they needed to be and what they had to do.

Each team member played an essential part in making this Convocation special – from senior administration and academics to non-academic staff, and from veterans with years of experience to new arrivals.

The result was a moment in time that will remain with each graduate. The meticulously coordinated processions, presentation of scrolls, and conferment of honorary doctorate and awards all went off without a hitch, crowned by the soft launch of the OUM25 anniversary celebrations, which will take place next year.

With the ceremony over, we now have beautiful memories and loads of photos on one of the most important milestones that a university can have.

Convocation truly reflects the heart and soul of OUM, where success is shared and celebrated together.
