With the new semester starting, our Miri Learning Centre held a dinner to mark the occasion on 6 January. Held at the De Tanjong restaurant, the “Back-to-School” themed dinner was attended by 36 students, 7 alumni and 7 staff, making up a total of 50.
A major annual activity for students, the Learning Centre held the dinner to strengthen ties with its students and alumni.
In addressing them, Miri Learning Centre Director, Zuliana Muktar, said, “Your journey in the learning process is far from over. Even if you used the water of seven oceans as ink to write down all bits of knowledge, it still wouldn’t be enough.
“We must realise that in this fleeting life, we have limited time to learn. Thus, we should respect scholars in all fields, including teachers from kindergarten to university. The classroom is like a mini world in which students can explore, sift through, and organise new knowledge based on curriculum needs, values, and real-life applications.”
She added, “In fact, learning is not limited to mastering content alone. There is also a hidden curriculum in terms of ethics, personality, attitude, character, appearance, teamwork, and the courage to express opinions.
“We also heavily emphasise the development of students’ talents. All the activities we plan ultimately lead to learning. Therefore, in addition to formal e-learning, students are guided to participate in co-academic, co-curricular, and sports activities. As a result, they could hone their leadership skills and engage in enjoyable learning experiences. Therefore, I call upon all students and alumni to join all the programmes we will be conducting at this Learning Centre this year.”
The dinner involved various activities such as lucky draws, karaoke, mini games, and best-dressed male and female contests.
Lastly, thanks to the Centre for Alumni Relations and Group Marketing for their support and sponsorship.
