On 27-28 November, a delegation of 31 leaders from OUM embarked on a benchmarking visit to Korea National Open University (KNOU) in Seoul. Led by Vice President (Business Development) Prof Dr Yon Rosli Daud, the group included learning centre directors and administrative officers from across Malaysia. This visit was a significant initiative to enhance OUM’s operational strategies and learner-centric services.
The visit aimed to gain valuable insights into KNOU’s operational strategies, particularly its management of 13 regional campuses and 34 learning centres, which collectively ensure effective and accessible open and distance learning. It also focused on understanding KNOU’s best practices in integrating technology into education, with a special emphasis on their cutting-edge TV broadcasting and digital content production facilities. These facilities play a pivotal role in delivering engaging and high-quality educational content.
Additionally, the delegation sought to strengthen ties with KNOU, exploring potential collaborations to further advance the shared mission of promoting quality open and distance learning. The visit provided an excellent platform for experience sharing, enabling OUM leaders to learn from KNOU’s successful management of extensive educational facilities while maintaining consistent quality and accessibility for learners nationwide.
A key highlight of the trip was the opportunity to tour KNOU’s beautiful campus and state-of-the-art facilities. The delegation was particularly impressed by the advanced infrastructure supporting digital content production and TV broadcasting. This walkthrough offered a glimpse into KNOU’s innovative approaches to delivering education, providing valuable takeaways for OUM to consider in its own context.
The delegation was warmly received by KNOU’s President and key officials, whose hospitality and openness in sharing knowledge made the visit both productive and meaningful. OUM extends its heartfelt gratitude to the leadership and staff of KNOU for the enriching experience and generous hospitality.
The insights gained will undoubtedly contribute to OUM’s ongoing efforts to deliver flexible, accessible, and innovative education. This visit also lays the groundwork for future collaborations, ensuring that both institutions continue to lead in shaping the future of open and distance learning.
