In an endeavour to equip teachers with crucial digital skills under the UNESCO-UNITWIN Project, OUM hosted a workshop earlier in February.

With the title “Empowering Tomorrow’s Minds: Boosting Digital Literacy in Schools,” the workshop was held at Menara OUM over 2 days on 3 and 4 February. The OUM Graduate Centre helped to organise the event by registering the students and preparing the venue and meals.

The workshop led by Dr Loo Fung Lan and me from the Faculty of Education attracted 10 attendees who enthusiastically participated in the workshop. They learned about AI concepts, programming languages like Scratch, and practical skills in utilising Micro:bit technology, which are essential aspects of digital technology and AI. Through practical exercises and engaging discussions, the participants gained not only theoretical knowledge but also valuable hands-on experience.

This initiative emphasises OUM’s commitment to fostering digital literacy among students, preparing them for the challenges of an increasingly digital-centric world.

We believe that also empowering teachers with essential digital skills will help prepare school learners for a future where digital literacy is not just a skill but a necessity.
