Picture a classroom filled with energy, where the usual quiet of textbooks is replaced by the sounds of laughter and lively chatter. That’s what we experienced when we kicked off our first “Learning is Fun” programme on 11 January.
Held at SK Ujong Batu in Kangar, Perlis, this student-centred programme was all about making learning an adventure. Instead of just reading from books, the children got to dive headfirst into exciting games and activities that brought maths, science, and English to life. It’s amazing how much fun it is to learn when you’re solving puzzles, conducting experiments, and working together to find the answers.
However, the “Learning is Fun” programme, which is part of OUM’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, isn’t just about fun and games. In fact, it helps children learn in many amazing ways – sparking curiosity, encouraging teamwork and communication, and boosting their confidence. Seeing how much they have learned and how much they have achieved also gives the children a real sense of accomplishment.
The “Learning is Fun” programme was a huge success in Perlis, with 60 enthusiastic pupils from Years 4 to 6 participating in a variety of exciting activities. The energy was contagious as the children tackled challenges, shared ideas, and celebrated their successes.
Our delegation, led by President/Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Ahmad Izanee Awang, included Assoc Prof Dr Tuan Fatma Tuan Sulaiman (Registrar), Dr Raziana Che Aziz (Dean, Faculty of Technology & Applied Sciences), Dr Ahmad Salahuddin M Azizan (Lecturer, Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities), Eti Fairudz Zainudin (Lecturer, Faculty of Education), and Fairul Ifnee Othman (Lecturer, Faculty of Business & Management).
The programme began with a wave of excitement at 7:00 am and continued with a whirlwind of fun and learning until noon. It culminated in heart-warming speeches from the school principal and Prof Izanee, followed by a joyous prize-giving ceremony where the children proudly received their well-deserved rewards.
The “Learning is Fun” programme is a shining example of how learning can be both engaging and effective. By making education a joyful experience, we are inspiring a lifelong love of learning in these young minds, one exciting activity at a time.
