Last month, we wrapped up 2024 with a bang – literally! On 21 December, the Sibu Learning Centre hosted its annual dinner at the Tanahmas Hotel in downtown Sibu. The event drew nearly 100 attendees, comprising students, alumni, and tutors, as well as their families and friends.
The evening kicked off with a thrilling opener – OUM President/Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Ahmad Izanee Awang fired a party popper gun, marking the start of a fun-filled night.
Joining us were our distinguished guest, Sibu Division Resident Officer Encik Abang Mohamad Porkan, and OUM HQ representatives Encik Zulhilmi Zainudin, Head of Group Strategic Communication, and Encik Syamsul Bahri Sabidin, Head of the Safety and Security Unit.
In my welcome speech, I shared my hope that the dinner would not only strengthen our ties with the local community but also deepen the bonds within the OUM family.
Prof Izanee’s opening speech added a heartfelt touch as he thanked the Sibu Learning Centre for organising the dinner. He also encouraged students to actively take part in OUM programmes and activities to enrich their learning experience.
The highlight of the evening was a prize-giving ceremony. Students who had scored the highest CGPA in their respective programmes were recognised and presented with prizes by Prof Izanee.
Adding to the cheerful vibes were lively performances by students and staff, karaoke singing, and lucky draws. We even had a cake-cutting ceremony to honour graduates of the recent convocation.
The annual dinner was a superb way to end the year, leaving us with fond memories and a renewed sense of belonging. Here’s to more moments like this in the future!
