On 26 February 2025, the Online Database Training for Academics 2025 was successfully conducted at Menara OUM. The event, organised by the Digital Resource Centre, saw the participation of 18 academics from various disciplines. The training aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in utilising digital resources for research and academic purposes.
The training session commenced with an introduction to the OUM Digital Library, providing participants with an overview of its features and functionalities. This was followed by a hands-on trial of the Bookboon Learning database, which offers a vast collection of eBooks and learning resources tailored for academic and professional development.
Participants were then introduced to ProQuest databases, a comprehensive platform offering access to a wide range of scholarly articles, dissertations, and industry reports. The session provided valuable insights into effective search strategies and database navigation to optimize research efficiency. Lastly, the training covered the Emerald Management eJournal, which specialises in business and management-related research. Participants explored its extensive collection of peer-reviewed journals and learned how to leverage the platform for academic writing and publication.
Throughout the training, participants engaged in interactive discussions and practical exercises, enabling them to apply their learning in real-time. The session concluded with a Q&A segment, where academics sought clarifications and shared their experiences in using digital resources for research.
Overall, the Online Database Training for Academics 2025 was well-received, equipping participants with essential digital literacy skills to support their academic endeavours. The event highlighted the importance of continuous learning and the effective use of digital databases in academic research and teaching.
